Just a quick recommendation tonight, Tony & Chelsea Northrup's buying guide book.
If you are thinking of buying a new camera, flash, tripod, or lens this book will save you hundreds if not thousands. Tony busts a pile of myths about camera gear, and will recommend you what you need based on your planned usage (if into wildlife her recommends one set up, if into shooting pictures of your kids another, etc)
Awesome book and silly cheap (6 quid for the ebook!), and has built in weblinks to lots of their video reviews to boot. Great book, love it myself and always refer to it before buying anything, it is still useful to me as a pro photographer but will help anyone before they even buy their first camera.
