Celebrating the Gold Innovation Award: A Milestone in Creative Photography
I’m thrilled to share some exciting news: I’ve been awarded the Gold Innovation Award by Innovate NI! 🎉 This recognition is a testament to the creative and innovative development of my “Untitled Virtual Gallery”
For those unfamiliar, Innovate NI’s Innovation Framework celebrates businesses and individuals who push boundaries, solve challenges, and bring fresh ideas to life. The Gold Award specifically recognises innovations that have been developed, tested, and successfully launched—something I’m incredibly proud of.
The Journey to Gold
Innovation has always been at the heart of my work. Whether it’s finding unconventional ways to do a photoshoot (like using a black jumper as a backdrop!) or teaching students to see the world through a creative lens, I’ve always believed that photography is about problem-solving and thinking outside the box. What you might not know is I apply this approach to all my artistic outlets and have been learning digital sculpture and how to code and craft online experiences in XR. This award reflects the culmination of years of experimentation, learning, and sharing in these new fields.
What This Award Means to Me
The Gold Innovation Award isn’t just a recognition of past achievements—it’s a reminder to keep innovating. Art is constantly evolving, and staying ahead means embracing new ideas, tools, and perspectives.
For me, innovation isn’t just about technology or equipment; it’s about creativity, resourcefulness, and a willingness to experiment. Whether it’s turning a basic cake into a mouth-watering masterpiece or using spare foam packaging to create a stunning product shot, it’s the results that matter. The Untitled Virtual Gallery shares a number of innovations, not just technically! With it I am also trying to bring about the changes I want to see in the art community.
a live show opening night!
A Thank You to My Supporters
This award wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my Innoate US teacher at Belfast Met, Rodney McConnell, and all the amazing artists represented at the gallery and as collaborators. To everyone who has trusted me to show their work,—thank you. Your enthusiasm and feedback have been invaluable in shaping my journey.
What’s Next?
While the Gold Award is a significant milestone, I’m already looking ahead to the next challenge: the Platinum level! This stage is all about creating lasting value and driving growth through innovation. I’m excited to continue exploring new techniques, expanding the Gallery, and finding even more ways to inspire creativity in others.

A Message to Fellow Creatives
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that innovation starts with curiosity. Don’t be afraid to try new things, make mistakes, and think differently. Whether you’re a photographer, artist, or entrepreneur, the key is to keep experimenting and pushing boundaries.
If my journey can inspire even one person to embrace innovation in their own work, that’s a win in itself.
Let’s Celebrate Together!
I’d love to hear your thoughts on innovation in art or creativity. What’s the most unconventional thing you’ve tried in your work? Share your stories in the comments below—I’d love to celebrate your achievements too!
Here’s to creativity, innovation, and the next chapter of this exciting journey. 🥂
